Get What You Want, Every Time

We all have needs, and we all have desires.  Often, however, we have to put our desires aside because they’re either unattainable, or unattainable at this moment.  But what if I told you that there is an easy way that you can get what you want, every single time, and all you have to do is ask?  It sounds absurd, but we can claim that Biblical promise laid out to us in Mark 11:24

Ask and receive

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24 ESV

The words of Jesus are pretty clear that if we ask, and we have faith that we will get it, then it will be ours.  So does that mean I can have a big house, fancy cars, friends galore, and all the prestige around?  Not exactly.

Getting Everything You Want

There is a little bit of a catch to Jesus’ words about getting everything you want.  Of course God wants us to be happy, and many of us believe that, “If I could only have this…” then we will be happy.  Unfortunately, if you read enough about the wealthy, you find that more money (and more things) doesn’t bring about happiness.  There is nothing wrong with goal setting (i.e. I will own a Ferrari by the time I’m 35), but this isn’t quite what Jesus was talking about in the passage.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV

There is a formula to happiness.  Essentially it goes like this:

What it boils down to is our attitude.  Are we thankful for everything that God has put into our lives?  If so, then we are acting in his will.  If we are acting in his will, then our desires will be aligned with his.  If our desires are aligned with God’s, then we can request what we want.  If we request what we want, and we are in his will, then our requests will be for things that glorify God, promote love, and help others.

Are You Getting Everything you Want?

If you’re not getting the answers that you want, then perhaps you’re asking the wrong questions.  If you’re not getting what you want out of life, then perhaps you desire the wrong things.  Take a step back today and determine if your goals are aligned with God’s goals.  If they are, then you simply have to ask for whatever you want and he will give it to you.
