Your Blog Content Makes Great Social Media Posts
Kids these days have shorter attention spans than ever. Actually, it’s not just kids; it’s people in general. Often because we’re getting those quick little dopamine hits from our favorite apps. Flashy lights, winning big on that casino game, or the likes and comments on social media – they’re all designed to keep us coming back for more. You can capitalize on this by repurposing your blog content, but you have to keep in mind the average attention span.
Who is Your Target Market?
Before you jump right into this, you want to know who your target market is.
Are they those who have the short attention span? The one that you can throw something flashy at them, get them to click, and they make an impulse buy?
Or are they a deep thinker? Someone that will take some time to learn about what you’re offering, and more likely become a client for life?
The first is going to need a different manner of reaching them than the latter. But both can benefit from your social media posts; the call to action will be different though.
How to Repurpose Blog Content
As you’re writing, consider what the final product is going to be. Will you set up the problem, offer the solution, then wrap it up? Or are there multiple solutions?
Here’s what I mean. Check out my post about how you can use a book as a professional (screenshot below). Whether you wrote it yourself, or used a ghostwriter (like the amazing and talented Scott Sery), there are a handful of ways you can now use your book to grow your reputation, your income, your career, or more. In this post, as I wrote, I created little graphics that go along with the sections. Every one of these is blog content I can repurpose into social media posts. Grab the image, summarize the section, and put them on Facebook or LinkedIn. Since I’m targeting those with a little longer attention span, I’m using these short form posts to grab their attention, and my CTA will be a link back to the blog so they can read the other methods… ultimately asking to book a meeting so we can talk about their book goals.

Sometimes, though, your blogs aren’t broken up into a ton of little bite-sized chunks like that. In these situations, you can still repurpose your blog content, but it might not be a series of smaller posts leading back to your site. Instead, take the header image, put some teaser text, and then put a link in the text box. It’s not as impactful, but it’s quick and easy and you can drive some traffic.
But even those that don’t seem like they have easy to break out chunks also have chunks that can be broken out. This blog, for example, has at least three nuggets I can extract and turn into social media content.

Why don’t companies do this?
Because it takes time. Most of them don’t even have time to write the blog content, let alone think about it in a way so it can be broken up into easily digestible social media posts. Which is precisely why I’m here.
