Marketers Who Prioritize a Blog Earn Higher ROI’s

There are a lot of marketing companies out there.  Some are kind of trash.  They plug you into their “tried and true” marketing plan and then cross their fingers and hope for the best.  In the end, you might see a little traffic, maybe an extra sale or two, but overall you spend a bunch of money to not make a bunch of money.

The good marketing companies will customize and tailor their plans to what you actually need.  And while a lot of people like to believe that blogging is dead, the data certainly doesn’t show that.

In fact, the data shows that when blogs are prioritized, you’re 13 times as likely to see a positive ROI.

How Do You Prioritize a Blog?

When you visit a business website, and you click over to their blog, pay attention to the dates when they post.  Usually that date will be listed somewhere with the title of the blog.  Are they regularly updating their site?  Or does it go weeks, or even months, between sporadic posts?

To truly see good things come from a blog, there are two ways it needs to be prioritized.

First, you have write blogs at least every other week.  Weekly blogs are even better, and two or even three times a week will do far more good.

Second, you have to get the word out about those blogs.  If you write them and then just cross your fingers while you hope and pray the people will come (this isn’t the Field of Dreams, the internet doesn’t like you that much), you won’t get the maximum benefit.

A blog sitting on your site will get some traffic.  It will help with SEO and give you a little nudge up those search engine rankings.  But Google doesn’t like inconsistency, and the people need directed to your blog – usually social media promotion is the way to go.

What Does “Positive ROI” Even Mean?

The statistics don’t say that you’ll earn 13x more ROI, but rather 13x more likely to see positive ROI.  This means that many marketers out there aren’t seeing a positive ROI.  Most companies are paying for marketing, and ultimately losing money because of it.

However, using that blog can flip the switch.  It might mean that $1,000 in marketing costs brings in just a profit of $1,001 to the business, but that’s a start.  Knowing that the marketing works is great, now it’s just a matter of tweaking it so the next month it’s looking a little better, then better, then better…

What Should be Included in a Blog?

Too many businesses neglect their blog with the excuse of, “I just don’t know what to write about!”  Really, though, anything is better than nothing.  And there certainly is no shortage of blog topics.  They can include:

  • FAQs – What do customers or clients ask about?
  • Products – Highlight a product or service and deep dive as to why it’s awesome.
  • History – Talk about how the company got started and why you ended up where you are.
  • Success Stories – Tell the tales of happy customers and clients.
  • Education – Teach your audience a thing or two.

If that’s not enough, you can hop on over to your favorite AI program and ask, “What are popular blog topics for [your industry]?”  Just make sure you don’t have the AI write the blog for you.  It can help, but AI generated content is flat, emotionless, and rather boring (I’m not just saying this because I’m a writer).

Plus, I’ve heard rumors that Google checks sites for AI generated content, and if our search overlords find too much on your site, you could lose rankings.
