Direct Response Copywriting Converts Readers
Have you ever wondered why some businesses seem to flourish, and others sort of bumble along? It’s not that the flourishers necessarily have a better product, or that they’re more business savvy. Instead, it’s more likely they use a direct response copywriter to guide their readers into exactly what they want them to do.
Let’s take a look at how your business can boom and what a direct response copywriter does for you.

What Exactly is a Direct Response Copywriter?
There are many kinds of copywriting out there. However, the bulk of them at least loosely relate to direct response.
The idea is that you want the reader to make a decision; you want them to respond.
The response can come in a handful of different ways. It’s not always “Buy Now! Please Buy! Please, I have kids, I have three more payments on my truck, buy from me PLEEEEAAASSEE!” It can be:

Or really any different action that the reader should take. Keep in mind, if you’re going at this on your own (aka not hiring Scott Sery the bestest copywriter in the whole wide world), don’t try to direct them into more than one option. Keep it simple, guide them to where you REALLY want to them to be.

How do Copywriters Work to Guide People into a Decision?
The trick is to use some psychological principals to guide the person into making a decision that will help the business to succeed. Here are the two biggest methods of creating those feelings.
The Perfect World – A business shows how your world will be perfect if you just buy from them. How about McDonalds or Coca-Cola ads? Life is beautiful and there’s nothing wrong at all if you just drink Coke and eat at Mickey D’s.
It Gets Worse – The opposite of the perfect world is what happens if you don’t use that business? Well, life’s gonna suck – nothing will go your way. Think about beer commercials that show people sad because they have no beer.
Just using these two can really guide people in. However, it can be reinforced with a little extra push.
Sometimes, you can use testimonials to drive home the point. Sometimes, you can use humor to make people giggle and create trust. Sometimes, you can use scarcity, or eliminate the downside potential (money back guarantee type thing), to show people you really mean business.

How is Direct Response Copywriting Used?
As I mentioned, nearly all ads have some component of direct response built right into them. I even put it into the vast majority of the blogs that I write because I want people to make a decision (aka BUY FROM ME PLEEEEAAASSSEEE!!).
But really, this section is about where it’s going to be used.
Email marketing is still huge. If you have a good email list already, and you’re not using it… why not?!?
DM marketing has picked up over the years.
Same with text message marketing.
Social media will likely remain a hotspot for direct response for years to come; the platform will change, and how the message is delivered may change, but the concept’s basically here to stay.
QR codes have made it possible that even static ads like magazines, billboards, flyers, and more can have a direct response component.
In short – anywhere you put your name and services out there, there’s the opportunity to have a direct response component.
