ghostwriter and blogger Scott Sery talks about building your personal brand

A Personal Brand Helps You Get Remembered

We know about branding.  And we can see the big-name companies that do it well.  Just Do It – we don’t even need to see Nike to know that it’s Nike.  I’m Lovin’ It – we don’t need to see McDonald’s to know it’s McDonald’s.  We see the polar bears and immediately think Coca-Cola.  We see that weird British Gecko and recognize Progressive Insurance.  But when people think about your brand, what do they see?  What catchphrases, logos, or colors scream your identity?

Let’s look at how you can develop your personal brand through blogging.  Creating the foundation of who you are right on your own website.

You’ve Got a Digital Soapbox

Unlike social media, where you have to abide by the rules the owner’s put in place (no, it’s not restricting freedom of speech; they own it, they make the rules), your blog is your own soapbox to announce anything you want to announce.

Of course, if you get on there and talk about the mole people that live underneath the city of Denver, or you go on and on about flat earth and how globe earth is ridiculous, or spout of other nonsense you won’t do yourself any favors.  But this is a place where you can show the people who you really are.

You’re not Somebody, You’re THE Somebody

When you’re online, you can get in lost in the noise.  Especially on social media where everyone is an “influencer.”  But on your site, you’re the star. You’re not a somebody looking to get noticed, you’re THE somebody, the person or brand that the entire blog is about.

This means you can build trust without having to sell yourself quite so hard.  Simply by being yourself on the blog, you can let your voice ring through.  Those who visit your blog start to learn about you and respect and trust you more.  No need to sell, just be authentic.

You’re Sharpening Your Voice

Yesterday you read about developing your unique writing voice… did you read that one yet?  Over time, the best way to develop your unique writing voice is to practice writing.  Not just dabbling here and there, but really pumping out the content to home in on what makes you, you.

It’s a digital record of your growth.  You can look back through your blog, see how your voice has changed, and see what makes you memorable and familiar to your audience.  Branding isn’t just about visuals; it’s about how you sound.

Did Someone Say SEO?

You’re the author of your blog.  You’re the proof of your business.  As you blog and develop your voice, establish that authority, and grow your business, you’re putting out a whole bunch of content that is searchable by the search engine overlords.

Every time you publish a blog, you get a little SEO nudge.  Over time, people will start finding you because you’re pumping out keywords, establishing authority, sharing what you do, and building trust with people and the algorithms.

You’re a Story, not a Skillset

You have a skillset, but that’s not what makes you, you.  You’re talented, unique, awesome at what you do.  But no matter what, those skills are shared by millions of other people.  Your skillset isn’t unique to you, and there are others that can do what you do.  So, why do people come to you?

Your brand is built on your story.  There are tons of ghostwriters out there.  But there is only one Scott Sery the ghostwriter.  Only one totally badass awesome dude that writes content and copy the way I do.  Brand yourself through your story – you can do that with your blog.

Blogging is Powerful, But Only When Done Regularly

To rank well, you have to have an active website.  Google likes to see things modified, updated, and added to your website.

People visiting your site want to get the latest information.  If they look and see your last blog was 2 months ago, and the one before that was 6 months ago, they wonder if you’re even around.

To have the maximum impact and really build your personal brand through blogging, you have to write regular blogs.  If you don’t have the time, don’t rely on AI to spin garbage just for the sake of having something on your site.  Use a real writer, like the amazing Scott Sery, and get it done the right way.

Book some time on my calendar, and we’ll talk about what you’re after and see how I can help.
