Doing a Website SEO Analysis
Something that I provide, free of charge, for any potential client is a free SEO analysis. This analysis takes a look at how the site is ranked, and how it could improve, and then I offer suggestions on what to do. If they want to improve their site on their own, then I don’t mind. If they want to hire me to do the work, then I am more than happy to bring another client on board.
My report includes the following items:
Viewing Analysis – how does the site look and feel when I visit? Is it easy to determine what the website is about, or do I have to search around for a while? Are there dead-end links? Is the content easy to read? This takes on a visitor’s perspective and gives pointers on how to update design and feel.
Page Rank – I run a free check of their page rank and let them know where they stand. I include a short description on what page rank is, and why it is important.
Backlinks – I check to see how many backlinks a website has out there. This is the most often neglected part of SEO; I have seen sites 15+ years old that have 5 or 6 backlinks.
Manual Search – I go to Google and I manually search for keywords. For example, if I was looking for myself I would search, “SEO Billings, Montana” or “writer Billings, Montana.” I would click through the results until I found their webpage.
My Thoughts to Improve – At the end I would make specific recommendations on what needs changed, how I can help, and what it will cost. What it boils down to is that they give me a budget, and I tell them what I can do. I include my testimonial of how I made it to the number one spot on Google in less than 3 months.
