Increase Traffic to a Website with Scott Sery

Enhance Your SEO with This One Weird Trick

Running a business means you need to be online.  That’s the way the modern world works.  Most small to medium sized businesses, however, slap up a business card site, and call it good.  They think, “Hey, we have our keywords on the homepage, we’ll increase traffic to our site.  Customers will come flocking to us!”

That’s not how things work.  Certainly, that online presence helps, but it needs a little bit more than a simple one- or two-page website.

Businesses that Blog Consistently have a Higher ROI on their Marketing

The last blog post talked about this, so we won’t get too much more into it.

Statistics show that when a business actively invests in their blogging, their marketing has a better rate of return.

These things all work together for the good of the business, because they’re providing a better product to the customer – the product, here, being information and valuable knowledge about what they do or offer.

Active Blogs Mean More Indexed Pages

Part of this works because when a blog is active, it’s adding pages to the website.

Think of this like the foundation for a building.  If you want to build a big building, you need a big foundation.  Trying to build a big building on a small foundation wouldn’t be feasible, it would fall over right away – or sink into the ground.  The only way to build something large, is to have a large foundation.

When you have a website that has a lot of pages to it, it’s creating that bigger footprint on the internet.  More pages indexed with the search engines (let’s face it, Google still reigns supreme here), means a larger foundation and it’s easier to be found.

The data shows that an active blog leads to 434% more indexed pages.  It’s also more opportunities for other sites to link to your own, and active blogs have 97% more inbound links.  More inbound links means more authority for the site; more authority means higher rankings; higher rankings mean more traffic coming in from searches for those who need your product or service.

Increased Traffic Should Mean More Customers

More traffic, of course, should mean more customers.

This is true, most of the time.  But you can’t just cross your fingers and hope for the best without a little bit of work.

If traffic is flowing to your site, but your site is dated, difficult, dangerous, or deceiving, that traffic won’t convert into more customers.

  • Dated – a site that looks old gives the impression that you don’t really know what you’re doing.
  • Difficult – a site that makes it hard for someone to find information gives the impression that you’re hiding something.
  • Dangerous – an unsecure site, or one slinging nefarious products, is untrustworthy.
  • Deceiving – if you say something, but do another, you’re not a good person.

If all you have is a little business card website, that says, “Call for more information!” you’re making it difficult on the traffic to your site.  Unless you have your niche honed in such a way that this is all that needs done, you’d be better served to make your site easier for the visitors.
