One of the best features built into WordPress is the ability to schedule posts out. There is no reason to sit around and publish everything manually. Instead, scheduling will allow you to post at the same time every day, allowing your readers the opportunity to check in at the same time and know that you will have fantastic content up for them to read.
Here is a quick tutorial on how to schedule your posts with WordPress.
Upload Your Content
All of my composition is done in Microsoft Word. I can edit, add hyperlinks, and build my entire post without even opening up my WordPress Dashboard.
When it is all ready to go, I simply copy and paste everything into a new post. I then modify a few things, such as set up my headers, upload my pictures, do all of my tagging and my internal SEO work.
If you haven’t taken time to read about how to do the internal search engine optimization SEO, click that hyperlink up there and learn all about what you need to do.
Once your post is set up exactly how you want it, you can schedule it to be published.
Scheduling your Posts
Scheduling the post is easy. On the right hand side of the window you will see your “Publish” sidebar. There’s a section with a calendar icon that says “Publish immediately” next to it. Hit that edit button.
Now just use the dropdown to choose the date and time that you want the post to publish. Hit “OK” and the menu collapses.
Now you’ll notice that the blue button at the bottom has changed from Publish to Schedule. Hit the Schedule button and WordPress will automatically publish your post at the time you indicated.
Why Schedule Posts?
The biggest reason to schedule your posts out into the future is to save yourself time. Let’s suppose you have Monday afternoon’s available to sit and write, but the rest of the week is looking pretty busy. No worries.
Sit and write 3, 4, or 5 posts all at once on Monday afternoon. Then using the scheduling tool you can set those up to post to your website once per day for the next few days. Your work is essentially done, and now you can forget all about it until next week (read up on SEO Content and finding time to write). Of course you will still want to monitor traffic, share your posts after they go live, and follow up on the comments that people leave on your blog.
